Study assessing rating scales

As a supplement to the Internet study we also want to examine whether the rating scales for symptoms and effects on quality of life used in the research are measuring a real, experienced improvement. Therefore we compared the difference in points before and after treatment derived from answers to questions about the improvement/deterioration experienced by each participant.

The results showed that the more a participant recorded a reduction in total points on the scales the greater was the improvement that was experienced. We have also defined the minimum change on the scales that must be achieved to experience an improvement. It is important that the results can be interpreted and compared with those from other studies, and to confirm that the scales we are using in the research also measure an observed improvement.
